- Well, I for one did not understand the difference prior to your (Dan
- Moore) explanation. Thank you for the complete and clear answer to the
- problem. I have a internal suprafax 28.8i modem and am very happy with it
- and the support provided on this group. I do have a few questions. I
- currently run windows 95 for my dial up connection. Thus it gives all the
- commands to the modem. What is the default command it is using? Is there
- anyway of changing this in windows 95?
-
- In terms af rate renegotiation, when I am downloading programs (Zip files)
- from the net, I appear to achieve rates at the speed reported on initial
- connection. Thus, when I initially connected at 21.6 the download rate is
- at 21.6. I have never seen it increase or for that matter decrease. I do
- however connect at different initial speeds varying from 21.6 to 26.4 (I
- might be off on the exeact numbers). It is my understanding that the line
- conditions change frequently. Thus, I should see a difference in rate of
- downloading when I download a large file. Why do I not see this? It is
- also my understanding, per post on this news group, that folks with the
- external model of this modem do see these rate changes on the LED display
- in similar stituations.
-
- By the way, is there anyway of directly determining the current speed (not
- just the initial connect speed) of an internal modem during a dial up
- TCP/IP connection?
-
- I have sent a similar e-mail request directly to the tech support with no
- answer in one week.
-
- Thanks for the help
